Meltdown and Spectre: Run Updates and Stay Patched

Run Updates and Stay Patched Researchers discovered two computer vulnerabilities, named Meltdown and Spectre, that affect nearly all of the world’s computers. Meltdown and Spectre affect ARM, AMD and Intel processors, which are inside of virtually every computer, tablet and smartphone. Currently, the best action to take is to run updates and stay patched. Apple says that ‘all Mac systems and iOS devices are affected’ by the vulnerability, but that there are no known exploits impacting customers right now…’ and Google provides a detailed list of systems impacted and action to take. While the only true fix is a new processor chip, that will take considerable time to phase out every current computer and device. In the interim, technology companies are providing operating system updates and patches to help minimize the vulnerabilities. How to Unlock Your Phone

How to Unlock Your Phone

How to unlock your smartphone and switch carriers to Sparrow Good news! Your contract with Big Mobile is finally up and you’re ready to switch carriers to Sparrow and join the mobile-for-good movement. Thanks to the FCC and 2014 legislation, once you pay for a smartphone in full, the device is yours—you can unlock your phone and bring it to the carrier of your choice with a compatible network. You checked with Sparrow, and your device works on Sparrow’s network but is locked by your current carrier. You’ve picked a Sparrow plan and ordered a Sparrow SIM. Now all you need is to unlock the device so you can transfer your number and activate your smartphone with Sparrow. If you bought your smartphone from a carrier, odds are that the phone is locked, even if you completed the contract. In the past, Big Mobile locked every device, and old habits are hard to break. Not to mention, it makes it harder for you to switch to a new carrier. A simple request can unlock your phone To unlock your phone, contact your current carrier and request that they unlock your phone. That’s it. When contacting your carrier, you’ll need this information on hand: Account holder’s name and account number IMEI of your device Your phone number The account holder’s social security number or password A finished contract and/or device payment plan Unlock requirements vary by carrier Keep in mind that each carrier has slightly different requirements. As long as you meet their criteria, your carrier must unlock your phone upon request. Tip for AT&T Customers If you’re unlocking an AT&T phone, you can make the request using the AT&T phone unlock...
How to Install a SIM Card and Activate Your Smartphone with Sparrow

How to Install a SIM Card and Activate Your Smartphone with Sparrow

How to Install Your Sparrow SIM Follow these easy steps to install your Sparrow SIM chip and activate your smartphone with Sparrow. Preparation You’ll need your smartphone, Sparrow SIM card and a SIM tool (a small metal tool that is normally packaged with your phone). If you don’t have a SIM tool, a small metal paperclip or thumbtack can also work. First, detach the SIM chip from the SIM card and keep it handy. Now, with your smartphone off, locate your SIM card tray by looking for a small hole in the side of your device. Installation Insert a SIM tool into the SIM tray hole. Apply gentle, but firm, pressure and push until the SIM tray pops out. Remove the SIM tray and place the Sparrow SIM nano chip into the tray, matching the notched corner. Carefully reinsert the SIM tray until it clicks back into place. Activation Turn your device on and give it a minute to locate the network. If it doesn’t locate the network right away, you may need to restart it. Try a test call, remember to setup your voicemail and you’re good to go. Want to join Sparrow but don’t have a Sparrow SIM card? No problem!
